Full length header widget area

Post by irncru » 24 Nov 2017, 15:22

First off, thanks for all your help Colin, thought I'd start a new thread but please feel free to delete my old one as I don't think I've asked anything of value.

I want to have full control over my header area. I figured the best way to do this would be get rid of the header and do everything in the header widget area, but as established the widget area is only 500px wide.

With a bit of inspecting I discovered the css defining #header-width was in a file called custom-styles in uploads/suffusion/. I changed 500px to 100% in there and it worked fine, however when I did anything else to the site the file seemed to update and revert to the original. I tried adding some custom css to my stylesheet but not joy. Anyone know where I need to add CSS to make this work?

Here's the site, I've got annoyed and left it as is at the moment

No need to start a new thread.

You should never change core code. You should always use the Custom CSS option.

If you put what you want in that widget area even though it is too small and post back I will take a look and give you the CSS to use

Sorry, "please start a new thread" seems to be the common phrase on support forums

It's already there, I want to have that banner at a flexible width of around 30%, with the text on the right, and the red background colour. It's all set up to go but currently it's all stacked on top of each other because the banner areas is only 500px wide. (the banner is set to 80% or something right now as it would be tiny otherwise). So yeah any advice on custom css would be great, when I first tried it it seemed to get overridden by the other stylesheet

edit - actually you can see it getting overridden in the code

Look carefully at your screenshot.

The crossed out CSS definition is in your edit of the core files. The active CSS definition is set in Suffusion Options > Backend > Custom Includes > Custom Styles. Delete this custom CSS entry and then it will completely fill the header area.

from what I can see it's the other way around. The crossed out code is in my child theme's stylesheet, the active code it in the core file. there's nothing in my custom inlcludes

edit: it wouldn't work in my style sheet but i added the code to custom includes and (for now) it seems to be working. thanks!

Custom Styles are loaded last and so always over-ride core files.
