How to implement a translation

Post by altasia » 28 Nov 2009, 02:45

Today I changed my website to the Suffusion team and I really like the look and feel of it. Only problem is that I cannot change the language. My website is in dutch and I would like my skin to match that. By my last skin I changed the code of it by myself but in your release note is a comment that there is an option for that.

I'm sorry for asking a stupid question but I cannot seems to find where you can change the translation. I'vce checked the FAQ and broused to all the option but I have not seen it.

Can someone point out to me how to do this.

Tnx.

In your WordPress installation folder you will see a file called "wp-config.php". Open it in a file editor. You will see a line starting with "define ('WPLANG', ...)". Set that line to

Code: Select all

define ('WPLANG', 'nl_NL');
If this line doesn't exist, create it.

Great it worked,

Guess that it is not possible to have an option in the skin to edit the language. Hope this explanation will help others later, cause I did not see it anywhere on the site.

Keep up the great work on the skin and the support for it.

Might something be different with WP 3.0?
I am running the Dutch WP version, with translations in place.
I am running your theme with Dutch translation in place (settings in wp-config are confirmed as Dutch).

But no Dutch translations... Hence me assuming it might be a WP 3.0 thingy?

Thanx,
Han

No, this is a site with WP 3.0 and Dutch translation: http://www.ischoltes.nl - it works fine.

Thanx for the fast reply!
It seems indeed that it is not a (default) WP 3.0 vs translation issue. Will have to dig deeper. If you happen to have any ideas or suggestions... It is related to this, not yet operational, blog: http://wieisdebetsemakelaar.nl/blog
thanx!

WP recently changed the wp-config file.

It used to be:

define ('WPLANG', 'nl_NL');

as of now it is:
define ('WPLANG', 'nl');

This has impact on your language file of a plugin a theme etc.
To fix things easy go to for example the languages folder of a plugin
Example:
/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/si-contact-form/languages/
in that folder you'll see that the translationfiles have the name:

si-contact-form-nl_NL.mo
si-contact-form-nl_NL.po

change the name of BOTH files in to this:

si-contact-form-nl.mo
si-contact-form-nl.po

And thats all :) you have your translation in place once again.
