Updating Translations to new versions wihtin POEdit

Hello Sayontan and folks.
I believe some of you might know, but I didn't see it documented here somewhere and WinMerge wasn't easy for a beginner like me,
I found easier method of updating translations rather than using WinMerge.

Open your translated .po file (I used "he_IL.po") in "POEdit"
Go to "Catalog => Update from POT file..."
Navigate to the new version of the suffusion.pot file
The program will import strings from new version of .pot file and all you need to do is translate and upload the new files.

Hallo Boys,

OK, but where is the suffision.pot? I have found only a suffusion.po file in the package.

Yes! :) :)

I checked on it:

PO and POT files are essentially the same.
The difference is in the intended use. This is why the two files have different extensions (.pot & .po). :)

POT – Portable Object Template. ----> to translators.
PO – Portable Object. ------> back from the translators. It’s a text file that includes the original texts and the translations.

Sayontan,

so I suggest you will name your file with the extension ".pot", then it is easier to load it in PoEdit.

On the other hand I found that the description on the Translate-Page is not accurate, you write:
The core translation file, suf_theme.po.
But in 3.8.2 it is "suffusion.po", in 3.7.5 you had both files, so what will be the standard file name in the future?

Cheers, Connie

Both extensions, .po and .pot load just fine with POEdit. The reason I did not name it with .pot is because Microsoft PowerPoint template files (not the presentations themselves) have the same extension and you might end up opening the file in PowerPoint (which is installed far far more than POEdit).

It is suffusion.po. I have fixed the document.

Sayontan,

you are right, .POT is a too common extension.
